Tense : For Students

1.  What is Tense ?

 Ans : Tense means the form of a verb that tells us when an action happens – in the past, present, or future.

Use of Tense?

o   To show time of action.

o   To make sentences clear.

o   To avoid confusion.

Three Main Tenses:

o   Present – action is happening now.

o   Past – action happened before now.

o   Future – action will happen later.

3.  Four Forms of Each Tense:

o   Simple – just the action. (I play)

o   Continuous – action is going on. (I am playing)

o   Perfect – action is finished. (I have played)

o   Perfect Continuous – action started earlier and is still going on. (I have been playing)

4.  Examples:

o   Present: I read books every day.

o   Past: I read a book yesterday.

o   Future: I will read a book tomorrow.

5.  Remember:

o   Use the correct tense to match the time words (yesterday = past, now = present, tomorrow = future).
