1. Percentage of a Number


Formula:


X% of Y = X/100 × Y  


But instead of multiplying and dividing, use shortcuts.


Example 1: 25% of 240



  • 25% = ¼

  • So, 240 ÷ 4 = 60


2. Quick Fractions to % (Learn these by heart)



  • 1/2 = 50%

  • 1/3 = 33.33%

  • 1/4 = 25%

  • 1/5 = 20%

  • 1/8 = 12.5%

  • 1/10 = 10%


This makes it instant.


3. Percentage Increase/Decrease



  • If number increases from A → B:


% Change = B−A / A × 100


Example 2: From 80 to 100


= (100 − 80)/80 × 100 = 25% increase


4. Short Multiplication Tricks for %



  • x% of y can be done as y% of x (whichever is easier).


Example 3: 12% of 50


= 50% of 12 = 6


5. For 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% etc.



  • 10% → move decimal one place left

  • 5% → half of 10%

  • 15% → 10% + 5%

  • 20% → double of 10%
