Why Do Airplane Windows Have a Small Hole ?

Airplane windows have three layers for safety.

The small hole in the window is called a Breather Hole.

Functions of the Breather Hole:

  1. It balances air pressure between the window layers.

  2. It prevents fogging or moisture on the window.

  3. It ensures that most pressure is taken by the outer window layer, making the window safer.

Interesting Fact: Airplane windows are oval (round) instead of square because round shapes

can handle air pressure better and reduce the chance of cracks.
