The human respiratory system helps the body to breathe and exchange gases. Air enters through the nose into the nasal cavity, where it is filtered, warmed, and moistened. It then passes through the pharynx and larynx into the trachea (windpipe). The trachea divides into two bronchi that enter the lungs and further branch into bronchioles. These lead to tiny air sacs called alveoli where oxygen enters the blood and carbon dioxide leaves the body. The diaphragm helps in inhalation and exhalation. This system supplies oxygen for cellular respiration and removes carbon dioxide from the body.
