One day, a young boy named Aman went to the sea with his teacher. He saw a diver going deep underwater and asked, “Why do divers feel pressure as they go deeper ?” The teacher smiled and said, “Let’s imagine water as a heavy blanket.” At the surface, Aman dipped his hand into the water and felt normal. But as he pushed his hand deeper, he felt more force. The teacher explained, “Water has weight because of gravity. This weight creates pressure.”

Aman listened carefully. “As you go deeper,” the teacher continued, “more and more water stays above you. All that water pushes downward on your body.” Aman said, “So deeper means more weight above?” “Exactly!” said the teacher. “That’s why pressure increases with depth.” The diver came back and said, “When I go deeper, I feel strong pressure in my ears and body because of the water above me.”

Aman learned an important lesson: Water pressure increases with depth because the weight of water above keeps increasing.
