RRB Exam : Practice Set

Q. A fruit seller bought 150 mangoes. He sold them at such a price that the selling price (SP) of 120 mangoes was equal to the cost price (CP) of 150 mangoes. Find his profit percentage.

Options: (A) 25%   (B) 35%   (C) 30%   (D) 20%

Solution - Ratio Method

Given: SP of 120 mangoes = CP of 150 mangoes

Therefore, CP : SP = 120 : 150 = 4 : 5

Profit = SP − CP = 5 − 4 = 1

Profit percentage:

Profit% = Profit / CP×100 = 1/4 × 100 = 25%

Short Trick

CP : SP = 4 : 5

So,

Profit = 5 − 4 = 1

Profit% = 1/4 × 100 = 25%

Ans: (A) 25%

Q. A shopkeeper bought 200 articles. He sold them in such a way that the selling price of 160 articles was equal to the cost price of 200 articles. What is his profit percentage ?

Options: (A) 20%  (B) 25%  (C) 30%   (D) 15%

Solution - Ratio Method

Given: SP of 160 articles = CP of 200 articles

Therefore,CP : SP = 160 : 200 = 4:5

Now, Profit = SP − CP = 5 − 4 = 1

Profit percentage:

Trick

CP : SP = 160 : 200 = 4 : 5

Profit% = 5 − 4/4 × 100 = 25%

Ans: (B) 25%
