Leap Year - Simple Year & Leap Century - Simple Century





Leap Year : A year divisible by 4 is generally a Leap Year.


Example:


2012 ÷ 4 = 503 , So, 2012 = Leap Year

2011 is not divisible by 4 → Simple Year


Exception: Century years must be divisible by 400 to be leap years.


Simple Year: A year that is not divisible by 4 is a Simple Year.

Example: 2010 ÷ 4 = 2 remainder 2


So, 2010 = Simple Year.

 

Leap Century: A century year is a Leap Year only if it is divisible by 400.

Example:


1600 ÷ 400 = 4 

Therefore, 1600 = Leap Century


Other examples: 2000, 2400


Simple Century: A century year that is not divisible by 400 is a Simple Century.

Example:


1900 ÷ 400 = 4 remainder 300

Therefore, 1900 = Simple Century


Other examples: 1700, 1800, 2100
