Type 12: Train Crossing a Pole

Q. A 150 m long train is moving at a speed of 54 km/h. How much time will it take to cross a pole ?

Formula:

Time to Cross the Pole = Length of Train ÷ Speed of Train

                                  T = L/V

Where:

  • L = Length of train in metres

  • V = Speed of train in m/s

Solution:

Length of train = 150 m

Speed = 54 km/h

Convert km/h into m/s: 54 × 5/18 = 15 m/s

Therefore,T = 150/15 = 10 seconds

Ans: 10 seconds
