Type 13: Train Crossing a Platform

Q. A 100 m long train crosses a 200 m long platform at a speed of 30 m/s. How much time will it take to completely cross the platform ?

Formula: Time to Cross Platform = (Length of Train + Length of Platform) ÷ Speed of Train

T = L1+L2/V

Where:

  • L₁ = Length of train

  • Lā‚‚ = Length of platform

  • V = Speed of train

Solution:

Train length (L₁) = 100 m
Platform length (Lā‚‚) = 200 m
Train speed (V) = 30 m/s

T = 100 + 200/30

T = 300/30 = 10 seconds

Ans: 10 seconds
